An update for Two Roads!
A Beachhead:
A position on an enemy shoreline captured by troops in advance of an invading force. 2. A first achievement that opens the way for further developments; a foothold:
This word has come to my mind as I think about all that has happened in Kabale Uganda. A foothold… a beachhead. It is the result of many people praying and ground forces going in over and over until by God’s grace we have established a foothold in enemy territory!
When we usually think of missions we think of going somewhere for a week or maybe two (if we are very committed) and then posting our results on Facebook, maybe sharing at our home church and then going back to life just as before. Don’t get me wrong mission teams and projects can be very good. But we can’t stop there! What we are now experiencing in Kabale is what you see in this picture above – warfare – spiritual warfare!! The ground has been softened by prayer, prayer support has been rained down and a few have gone into the enemy territory and established a foothold there on the beach. It is exhausting work. The devil doesn’t take time off. Our Staff in Kabale is in the middle of the battle daily.
We have been threatened with curses by witchcraft, been accused of bribing people, been given death threats, but should we be discouraged? Our God is still on the throne! Satan is fighting back with his lies and the people under his control. We must stand firm for truth and righteousness. We must take the beach and then move inland!
Let me give you a brief update and if you want more details you can contact us. In January we became aware of accusations of sexual misconduct being made against Junior, the head of the organization (Educate a Child) that we have been sponsoring children through. We reported the alleged abuse to the Ugandan authorities. They sent a team of detectives to investigate and found sufficient evidence to have Junior arrested and held for trial. As you can imagine there are some parents loyal to Junior and therefore upset with us for reporting him. (But you can’t begin to understand the culture of rampant sexual abuse and misconduct, lying, deception and bribery). We have met with all the parents and explained things as best we can at this point. There is no trial date set so there remains a degree of uncertainty. Two Roads separated at the end of January from Educate a child. There are a few children who have decided to leave our program and go with another one for their sponsorship. This is about 6 or 7 children. If your child is one of them you will be notified personally and we will work with you on sponsoring another child if you desire. On the other hand we have picked up some new children who were being sponsored by a group from the UK but have chosen to be sponsored by Two Roads. We may not know 100% who is staying with Two Roads until the second term starts the end of May. We will be paying everyone’s school fees for the second term beginning next month. At this point it looks like we have about 115 children under our sponsorship and an additional 21 we sponsor through Pastor Edward for a total of 136 children. Our sponsorship of Pastor Edward’s children is unaffected by what has happened.
The Junction is up and running, with children daily visiting after school. On weekends we serve meals and are working toward intentional training classes. We have installed a projector in the living room at the Junction and have shown movies. In this picture to the left the children are watching the Chronicles of Narnia!
God has raised up reinforcements for the battle! This summer we have 19 people making the trip to Uganda! These volunteers are spread over three different teams which will cover an 8 week time span. Please pray for these as they go into battle! Our desire is cover Kabale with prayer coverage!! So even those here can begin now sending out a barrage of prayers raining down from Heaven!!
Our staff in Uganda is doing a great job in the face of overwhelming odds! We are still looking for an American couple to go and work in Kabale on a longer term basis (1-2 year commitment). If you know of someone who might be interested please pass this along. We need to bolster our ground forces!
Please be encouraged that God has opened a wide door of opportunity for us!! He has given us this beach head! We have the Junction as a physical location and we have staff who love the Lord and want to see change come to the lives of our children and the culture that surrounds them. We have almost finished equipping the Junction with everything we need. This week (April 18th) the children finished their first term and began a month long vacation – so things will definitely be hopping at the Junction!!
As a staff we have been reading chronologically through the Bible. We have all been greatly encouraged as we have been going through this battle in Kabale, as we have read the Psalms that David wrote as he too battled the enemy! Here is an excerpt from Psalm 59
1 Rescue me from my enemies, my God; protect me from those who rise up against me. 2 Rescue me from those who practice sin, and save me from men of bloodshed. 3 Because look, Lord, they set an ambush for me. Powerful men attack me, but not because of any sin or rebellion of mine.6 They return at evening, snarling like dogs and prowling around the city.
7 Look, they spew from their mouths— sharp words from[a] their lips. “For who,” they say, “will hear?” 8 But you laugh at them, Lord; you ridicule all the nations. 9 I will keep watch for you, my[b] strength, because God is my stronghold. 10 My faithful God[c] will come to meet me; God will let me look down on my adversaries.
12 For the sin of their mouths and the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. They utter curses and lies. 14 And they return at evening, snarling like dogs and prowling around the city. 15 They scavenge for food; they growl if they are not satisfied. 16 But I will sing of your strength and will joyfully proclaim your faithful love in the morning. For you have been a stronghold for me, a refuge in my day of trouble. 17 To you, my strength, I sing praises, because God is my stronghold— my faithful God.
God is our Stronghold! He is a strong and mighty tower!! May He be praised in all things.
Faithful yours,
Greg & Donna
