Mary Janet is a nine year old girl, the second last born out of five and she is in primary three. She loves maths and hopes to be an engineer in the future. Mary enjoys playing volleyball and her favorite color is pink.
Mary’s mother works in peoples farms while the father is a teacher in a rural school, a few years ago her father stood surety of a friend that defaulted a loan from the bank which has meant that all the money he makes at the school has been channeled into servicing the loan. Currently Mary and her other sister are the only children still attending school but the other siblings were pulled out.
