Here is an update of what the Lord has done through the month of June and what is coming up in July. This newsletter is a condensed version of Amos’ monthly report. He does a great job of keeping us updated on the ongoing ministry. He and the rest of the staff really are Christ’s hands and feet in Kabale!
- Our staff faithfully meets with our parents to encourage, strengthen and disciple them. In June they had meetings with both our single parents and married parents. The meetings are tailored to the different life situations these parents face.
Juliet shared with our single parents the importance of not dwelling on the past mistakes/ circumstances and using this as an excuse to pass on the traumas to the next generation but rather to draw lessons and resolutions from them thereby making fundamental changes in their lives. She also shared with them ways to improve their faithfulness in prayer.
In the married meeting, Tyra talked about the significancy staying FAITHFUL to your partner in Marriage. She talked about how this honors God, ourselves and definitely honors our partner. She added that this creates stable families, and can be a great legacy they pass on to their children.
- The junction.
OWEN
In June Jim took over the leadership of the junction and we are happy to report that there has been tremendous change. He has followed the schedule and helped the kids with homework. Jim has improved the general hygiene of the junction. We currently have three beneficiaries staying at the junction with Jim, that’s Mordecai, Judah, and Owen.
Owen is a sixteen-year-old young man who we took in most recently because he has no family that he knows of. He was in dire need of a place to stay but above all desperately needed a place to belong. A place where he would be seen and treated as a child and the junction offers just that! He also got a sponsor this month!
We have secured the permission from the probation office to foster Judah and Owen since we are not a registered children’s home.
- School visits
Our staff made two school visits in June. The first was Kigezi High School where more than half of our sponsored children attend. We shared from the book of Mathew 25:14-30, reminding them of how a lot is expected from them since they have also been blessed with much.
We also shared some bible truths in relation to the lies they have been told by the religions they have known. This is a conversation we want to continue with this holiday because we understand they have been indoctrinated with religion all their lives; it will equally take time for them to grasp the truth. The other school was Child Africa where we have a number of students.
- Legal
After 6 years of pursuing justice for the vulnerable girls, Justice was at last served! Junior, who brutally abused these vulnerable kids for more than 5 years was sentenced to 46 years in prison and ordered to compensate the victims 5 million shillings (about $1350). While this sentence may never heal the traumas and impact the abuse caused, but it will keep away Junior for 46 years from ever doing the same to other kids. This was a hard case, from the traumas of the abuse itself to the harassment of the victims and threatening violence to us. In fact, an attack happened but was rescued by the Judge’s security detail. They continue to vow to harm us but we are firm in the cause for Justice. We thank Amos for his willingness to heavily invest in this case and see the light of Justice.
The civil case concerning the land continues to drag on but we thank God for a new Judge in Kabale. We are waiting for a new date as Junior was not in court as scheduled on June 25th due to his sentencing in the criminal case.
- Participation in the DAY OF THE AFRICAN
2Roads participated and helped to organize the celebrations which highlights the vulnerabilities of the children in Africa. It is also an event that brings together all children focused ministries in the district. We praise God that because of what he has done through 2Roads over the years, the district has proposed us to lead the organization of next year’s celebrations. Amos participated in the radio talk shows highlighting the need to do more for the children of Kabale. The district has also taken note of the approach we have taken to not only engage children but also parents affirming that the transformation of community starts from home- the parents!
