This report summarizes activities and developments during May, including parent meetings, holiday programs, distribution of scholastic materials, the upcoming July mission trip and prayer requests.

This last month (May) has been a busy one for our staff. The sponsored children were out for a three-week holiday between the first and second term. (They go three terms per year)  With the children out of school it means our staff conducts Bible study with them by age groups on different days of the week. They receive lunch on the days they come for Bible study and activities. During this period the staff reviews all their grades for the first term.  We had some good grades and some not so good grades. Those not receiving passing grades are counselled to determine what problems or challenges exist.

School Breaks & Holiday Devotion Program.

Duration: Three-week holiday period with students present for Holiday Program.

Theme: “Walking in Excellence” (Colossians 3:23–24); example from Daniel 6:3–4.

Objectives: Cultivate a spirit of excellence—diligence, consistency, focus, and a Christ-centered attitude—and set spiritual and academic goals.

Student commitments highlighted:

  • Wilson (P6): Read the Bible first thing each morning.
  • Joab (S4): Live an exemplary life that points others to God.
  • Ishimwe: Acknowledged struggle with pretence and committed to praying for understanding of Scripture.

Conclusion: Devotion reinforced 1 Corinthians 10:31—do all for God’s glory.

Parent–Student Meetings:

Amos conducted a Sponsorship Policy Meeting during the break.

He reviewed the 2Roads sponsorship policy, highlighting a few changes and giving opportunity for questions from parents and students.

This is an opportunity to meet with the parents and students together to keep everyone on the same page. Reminding both students and parents what their benefits are along with their responsibilities.

  • Our students who finish their senior year in high school can apply to attend a university on a scholarship (funded by Two Roads). University placement has never been automatic, but it was becoming the expected norm. This can be paid for by their sponsor if they can afford to increase their sponsorship amount or by our foundation through the scholarship fund. (We are seeking funds currently). With our current finances some of the 8 students ready to attend the university may have to wait (see the list from last month’s newsletter)
  • Secondary students who fail to meet academic averages for the term will not be eligible to receive some of their school requirements.

Outcome: Parents and students generally accepted the revisions. The finalized policy will be translated into Rukiga; each family will sign a copy with the Country Director and receive a copy to keep.

The other focus of this meeting was to encourage students spiritually and academically; emphasizing that they are representing Christ (“Jesus’s feet”) through conduct and witness.

  • Special emphasis this new term: Respect for school rules and improved discipline following significant 4 cases of students being expelled from Kigezi High school this last term.
  • Parent involvement: Several parents encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunity provided by Two Roads and to give their best effort.

Scholastic Materials Distribution

School requirements and materials were distributed; students responded positively.
