Joab is fourteen years old and in his second year of high school. He is the last of five children, he loves to play soccer and the piano for entertainment. His dream is to be a civil engineer, he loves to study math and physics.
Joab lost his father a few years ago and he currently stays with his mother and older brother. Out of the five siblings, he is the only one still in school as the others dropped out given the fact that the mother was unable to pay school tuition for them hence them moving out to go find better means to survive something they haven’t succeeded at yet.
Joab’s mother sells charcoal as her only source of income that fetches her less than five dollars a day. His son’s dream of being a civil engineer and keeping in school are out of reach for him. And as things are, it’s sad to think that he might also have to drop out of school like all his older siblings.
